Come from Away tells the true story of the 38 planes and nearly 7,000 passengers diverted to Gander, Canada, after the September 11 attacks, and how the local community welcomed them. Directed by Pedro Pernas, the musical includes performances with Portuguese and English subtitles.

Synopsis “Come from Away” is a musical created by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It is based on the events that took place in the town of Gander, Newfoundland, Canada, in the week following the attacks of September 11, 2001. During that period, with US airspace closed, 38 planes carrying almost 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander. The town’s residents welcomed these people, housing them, feeding them and supporting them until they could continue their journey.
