The musical 'Come From Away' by Irene Sankoff and David Hein tells the true story of Gander, Canada, where nearly 7,000 passengers from planes diverted on 11 September 2001 were welcomed by the town's residents.

Synopsis “Come from Away” is a musical created by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It is based on the events that took place in the town of Gander, in Newfoundland (Canada), in the week following the 11 September 2001 attacks. During that period, with US airspace closed, 38 planes carrying almost 7,000 passengers were diverted to Gander. The town's residents took these people in, housing them, feeding them and supporting them until they could continue their journeys.
