In 'Ch’ttahh', Bilal El Had returns to the Moroccan chaabi, the first dance form he knew, exploring social gestures, cultural memory and the possibility of breaking rules through movement. Combining his personal experience with the rhythms, songs and ancient symbols of chaabi, the piece moves between homage and invention, humour and conflict.

Synopsis Show in English and Arabic, with Portuguese and English subtitles. In Ch’ttahh (“dancer”), Bilal El Had returns to the first dance form he knew: Moroccan chaabi, a popular style of music and dance played at weddings, street parties and gatherings at home. Ch’ttahh combines his personal dance experience with the rhythms, songs and ancient symbols of chaabi. It explores social gestures that carry a long history of men challenging gender norms through dance, poetry and music. Between homage and invention, humour and conflict, Ch’ttahh captures the energy of the present while looking at the collective past with attention and care. Through the strong expressiveness of chaabi, it brings us a dance that is a way of overcoming or breaking social rules, while preserving cultural memory and the possibility of imagining possible futures. Bilal El Had (1991, he/him) is a Moroccan dancer and performer based in Brussels. Trained at P.A.R.T.S., he has collaborated as an interpreter with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Salva Sanchis, Radouan Mriziga, Laurent Chétouane and Maud Blandel, among others. He is currently developing his own choreographic work, exploring the relationship between music and dance as a space where traditional forms, cultural memory and collective imagination intersect and transform.
