Artist Margarida Correia presents a portrait of paratrooper nurses of the Portuguese army who served in Africa in the 1960s and 70s, built through interviews and collected memories, in an exhibition curated by João Pinharanda, on show Wednesday to Monday from 10h to 19h.

The artist investigates, especially through photography, personal and institutional archives of specific communities, which she presents in exhibitions and through catalogues of great graphic richness. In recent years, she has been working on the memory of some Portuguese emigrant communities in the USA. One of these exhibitions (at Cinzeiro 8, Museu de Electricidade, 2011), entitled New World Parkville, resulted in a catalogue acclaimed by critics. Her new proposal addresses an issue that cuts across contemporary art, related to some historical questions of post-colonialism. Through interviews and the gathering of material, the artist literally portrays a group of paratrooper nurses of the Portuguese army who served in Africa in the 1960s and 70s. Scenes from their professional lives and everyday life in Africa, moments of work and leisure. Once again, it is a matter of recording, recovering and fixing individual and collective memories of a professional group little studied and little known. Wednesday to Monday, from 10h to 19h.
