Brief Introduction Heitor Furtado de Mendonça against the anti-catechesis of Santidade. Transatlantic Biographies is a programme of visits to the permanent exhibition of the Museu de Lisboa - Palácio Pimenta, followed by a conversation about slavery, the Inquisition and religiosity. Synopsis In the fifth session of Transatlantic Biographies, we bring into dialogue two trajectories that, at first glance, seem distant: that of Heitor Furtado de Mendonça, as the 1st Visitor of the Portuguese Inquisition in 16th-century Bahia, and the collective experience of the women and men involved in the Santidade de Jaguaripe, a religious resistance movement in the Recôncavo of Bahia. On one side is the man of orthodoxy, representative of established power. On the other side are the followers of Santidade, who experienced another vision of the world, marked by indigenous spirituality transformed by catechesis and by the refusal of domination. This encounter between biographies allows us to think about the crossings, tensions and resonances that shaped the Luso-Atlantic world. By reconstructing these lives, we propose an exercise in listening and historical imagination. Prices General - 5€

Breve Introdução Heitor Furtado de Mendonça contra a anti catequese da Santidade Biografias Transatlânticas é um programa de visitas à exposição permanente do Museu de Lisboa - Palácio Pimenta, seguidas de uma conversa em torno da escravatura, a inquisição e a religiosidade. Sinopse Na quinta sessão das Biografias Transatlânticas , colocamos em diálogo duas trajetórias que, à primeira vista, parecem distantes: a de Heitor Furtado de Mendonça, enquanto 1.º Visitador da Inquisição portuguesa na Bahia do século XVI, e a experiência coletiva das mulheres e homens envolvidos na Santidade de Jaguaripe, movimento religioso de resistência no Recôncavo baiano. De um lado o homem da ortodoxia, representante do poder instituído. Do outro lado os seguidores da Santidade, que vivenciaram uma outra visão do mundo, marcada pela espiritualidade indígena transformada pela catequese e pela recusa do domínio. Este encontro entre biografias permite pensar os cruzamentos, tensões e ressonâncias que moldaram o mundo luso-atlântico.
