As the end of the first quarter of the 21st century approaches, our planet teeters precariously from one crisis to another. Instead of passively watching, Gurriers are launching a fierce counterattack against the malaise of the modern age with a future album of noisy reflection, Come and See. Come and See explores many themes, whether it’s the end of the world, Dublin’s disadvantaged youth, emigrant friends, the rise of the far right, desensitisation to violence, a pope struggling with faith and love, among other things. With songs that observe how modern narcissism is fuelled by addiction to online personas (“Des Goblin”), about the disillusionment of contemporary youth (“Dipping Out”) and ironic anthems lamenting the rise of the far right (“Approachable”), Come and See is not an ordinary debut album, but an electrifying statement of intent from five people tired of tiptoeing around chaos. “It’s impossible to overstate how impressive this album is. It’s not impressive for a debut; it’s not impressive for a punk album; it’s simply impressive. It’s unequivocal, unapologetic, frankly unbelievable.” 5/5, Dork Magazine.
