Brief Introduction As Preciosas Ridículas, Molière's first great text, is considered by critics as the moment when he left farce behind for comedy. With the aim of criticising and ridiculing, Molière invented the story of two bourgeois young women, Catarina and Madalena, who, imitating the attendees of socially superior salons, call themselves Polixene and Aminte, title their servant Almanzor and expect the most elaborate refinements of language and gallantry from anyone who wishes to win them over. That is why their suitors decide to teach them a vigorous lesson, dressing their servants, Mascarille and Jodelet, as noblemen and sending them to court the precious young ladies. In due time, the original suitors arrive, unmask the servants and exult at the result. Breve Introdução As Preciosas Ridículas, o primeiro grande texto de Molière, é considerado pela crítica como o momento em que ele deixou a farsa pela comédia. Com o objetivo de criticar e ridicularizar, Molière inventou a história de duas moças burguesas, Catarina e Madalena que, imitando as frequentadoras dos salões, socialmente superiores, chamam-se a si mesmas de Polixene e Aminte, intitulam o seu criado de Almanzor e esperam os mais rebuscados refinamentos do linguajar e galanteria de quem quer que pretenda conquistá-las. É por isso que os seus pretendentes a maridos decidem aplicar-lhes uma vigorosa lição, vestindo os seus criados, Mascarille e Jodelet, como nobres e mandando-os cortejar as preciosas senhoritas. No devido tempo, chegam os pretendentes originais, desmascaram os servos e exultam com o resultado.
