It holds a significant representation of national and international names, such as Alexander Calder, Almada Negreiros, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Amedeo Modigliani, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Doris Salcedo, Francis Bacon, Helena Almeida, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Miró, Louise Bourgeois, Lourdes Castro, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Nan Goldin, Niki de Saint Phalle, Pablo Picasso, Paula Rego, Piet Mondrian, René Magritte, Richard Serra, Salvador Dalí and Wifredo Lam, among many others, held in the storage of the Coleção Berardo, the Coleção Teixeira de Freitas, the Coleção Ellipse and the State Contemporary Art Collection on loan to the Museum of Contemporary Art/Centro Cultural de Belém. With a history of around 30 years of exhibition and museum activity, initially as an Exhibition Centre (1993, 2005) and later as the Museu Coleção Berardo (2006, 2022), it was inaugurated in 2023 as the MAC/CCB — Museum of Contemporary Art and Centre for Architecture. Located in Lisbon's foremost heritage district, it contributes to the Centro Cultural de Belém's mission of fostering the dialogue between the performing arts, architecture and the visual arts.
