The Francisco Fino Gallery presents One Million Points of Light, the first Alfredo Jaar solo show in Portugal, bringing together three fundamental works that reflect on the politics of the image, historical memory and the spectator's ethical responsibility.

The exhibition brings together for the first time in Portugal three fundamental works by the artist, proposing a reflection on the politics of the image, historical memory and the ethical responsibility of the spectator. The Francisco Fino Gallery presents One Million Points of Light, the first solo exhibition by Alfredo Jaar at the gallery. Curated by Maurizio Bortolotti, the exhibition gathers a selection of works that articulate some of the central questions underlying Jaar's practice: the politics of the image, the ethics of representation and the responsibility of the spectator in a world saturated with visual information. Over more than four decades, Jaar has investigated how images shape our understanding of reality and mediate our relationship with human suffering, violence and historical memory. At a time when images circulate incessantly through global communication systems and social networks, his work resists spectacle and the urgency of the immediate, proposing instead a space of reflection, silence and ethical confrontation. Rather than reproducing the rhetoric of the mass media, Jaar strips the image of excess and restores its human dimension. Tuesday to Friday, from 12h to 19h, Saturday, from 14h to 19h. A Galeria Francisco Fino apresenta One Million Points of Light , a primeira exposição individual de Alfredo Jaar na galeria. Com curadoria de Maurizio Bortolotti, a exposição reúne uma seleção de obras que articulam algumas das questões centrais subjacentes à prática de Jaar: a política da imagem, a ética da representação e a responsabilidade do espectador num mundo saturado de informação visual. Ao longo de mais de quatro décadas, Jaar tem vindo a investigar a forma como as imagens moldam a nossa compreensão da realidade e intermedeiam a nossa relação com o sofrimento humano, a violência e a memória histórica. Num momento em que as imagens circulam incessantemente através dos sistemas globais de comunicação e das redes sociais, o seu trabalho resiste ao espectáculo e à urgência do imediato, propondo antes um espaço de reflexão, silêncio e confronto ético. Em vez de reproduzir a retórica dos meios de comunicação massificados, Jaar depura a imagem do excesso e restitui-lhe a sua dimensão humana. Terça a sexta, das 12h às 19h, sábado, das 14h às 19h.
