Throughout the year, numerous traditional festivals and rituals of a religious nature take place in Japan, of great social and cultural importance. With solemn ceremonial moments and others of pure entertainment, they originate mainly from Shintoism - the ancient cult of the kami spirits - to which Buddhist practices were added. The exhibition Japan: Festivals and Rituals introduces these celebrations and their role in Japanese society, as axes of identity and community building, of its conception of the world and the forces that move it.
