The House Is the Ruin of a House Inês Sapeta Dias • 2026 • Portugal • 31’ • DCP World Premiere Eligible for the Short Film Award

The House Is the Ruin of a House maps a tiny house that has stood for a hundred years in the centre of the mouth of a giant, practically extinct volcano. It speaks of the house's permanence but also of its imminent disappearance. It follows the enormous, vast, contradictory, threatening and deafening movements of the earth, the wind, the sea and time, and projects a future of extinction into the present (a landscape resembling that of a distant past). Inspired by archaeoacoustics, an interdisciplinary field that studies the relationship between human beings and sound, the film provides an ancestral experience, exploring the mysteries of life and death, the origin of images and the therapeutic properties of sound.
