Companhia Teatro Livre stages Molière's first great comedy, in which the bourgeois young ladies Catarina and Madalena — who style themselves Polixene and Aminte — are taught a lesson by their suitors through servants disguised as noblemen. Directed by Beto Coville, with a cast including Joana de Verona, Luísa Ortigoso and Eurico Lopes.

Brief Introduction The Pretentious Young Ladies, Molière's first great text, is considered by critics as the moment when he left farce behind for comedy. With the aim of criticising and ridiculing, Molière invented the story of two bourgeois young ladies, Catarina and Madalena who, imitating the frequenters of socially superior salons, call themselves Polixene and Aminte, title their servant Almanzor and expect the most refined language and gallantry from anyone who wishes to win them over. That is why their suitors decide to teach them a vigorous lesson, dressing their servants, Mascarille and Jodelet, as noblemen and sending them to court the precious young ladies. In due time, the original suitors arrive, unmask the servants and exult at the result.
