Synopsis The teacher dictates the summary: 'Full reading of Auto da Barca do Inferno, by Gil Vicente.' As soon as the students start reading, Leonardo, in the last row, falls asleep. But even sleeping he gets no rest. Doesn't the very important Gil Vicente, a.k.a. the father of Portuguese theatre, appear in his dream? Gil Vicente wants Leonardo to wake up, thinks his play deserves a second chance. And he also thinks Leonardo deserves a second chance. Summary: Auto da Barca do Inferno is the second show in the Teatro Escolar series, by the company Razões Pessoais. At the risk of being didactic, this series takes as its starting point the dramatic texts from the Portuguese subject syllabus. For many, the first contact with a dramatic text is at school, the first trip to the theatre is with school, and the first time they do theatre is at school. This series mixes the history of the plays with the history of teachers teaching and students learning. A mix that can be truly dramatic.
