Maria Gil's theatre piece draws on 'The Living Mountain', written by Nan Shepherd during the Second World War, to explore the mountain as a place one enters rather than a summit to be climbed.

Brief Introduction In the midst of the Second World War, Nan Shepherd writes 'The Living Mountain', describing her journeys through the Cairngorms in a meditation on the consolation and strength of untamed regions, focusing on the hidden elements of the mountain and on our imaginative relationship with the wild world. In 1940, publication of the manuscript is refused and it would remain locked in a drawer for more than three decades. This show departs from that 'Living Mountain' and from Shepherd's idea that the mountain is not a summit to be climbed, but a place one enters. A crevice that opens.
