Health in the Reconquista and the Crusades

Tuesday 1 December

Museu da Farmácia, Lisbon

In the formation of the Kingdom of Portugal, health played an important role, especially in the military context and in the management of public health. Through Apothecaries, Physicians, surgeons and nurses, the health of the armies was guaranteed for defense and territorial expansion, highlighting the role of the Hospitals of the Military Orders. On the other hand, public health was under the purview of the Crown's representatives, with strong legislation on public health and hygiene, but also through the role of proximity to the populations provided by Monasteries and Convents. Sign up here. €9 - Adult and Senior. €6 - Student.
