Joana Levi presents 'Cancer in Saturn', a performance that closes a trilogy on the West's colonial relations with the non-human world, weaving together science, astrology, and autobiography.

Since 2020, Levi has been developing an essayistic language that articulates, with sharp humour, philosophical meditation, fabulation, scientific theories and autobiographical elements. After Rasante (2000) and Primárias e Exóticas (2024), in Cancer in Saturn, Levi turns to the relations of the human with the micro and macroscopic worlds. The last creation in this series is inspired by the theories of biologist Lynn Margulis, transposing her concept of symbiosis from biology to dramaturgical creation. It is in this sense that research on the cellular universe and the observation of her own body – subject to hormone therapy to fight a breast tumour – will be in symbiotic conversation with astrological and astronomical readings. Joana Levi is a creator, performer and playwright based in Lisbon since 2017. She devotes herself to experimental and collaborative projects that forge a scene crossed by different languages (from performance to theatre, from dance to philosophical thought) and that evoke relations of tension expressed in urban, (post)colonial and gender contexts and conflicts. Recently, she created the solo performance Primárias e Exóticas at the Temps d’Images Festival. She is a member artist of PENHASCO Arte Cooperativa and APNEIA COLECTIVA.
