Book presentation: O Mais Velho Surfista do Atlântico, by Pedro Arruda

Saturday 14 November · 17:00

Biblioteca Municipal de Cascais - Casa da Horta, Cascais

As part of a cycle of meetings with surfer writers, the presentation of the book 'O Mais Velho Surfista do Atlântico: Uma história do surfing nos Açores' (The Oldest Surfer in the Atlantic: A History of Surfing in the Azores) will feature the author's presence. This book takes us back to the time of the arrival of the first Azoreans in Hawaii and accompanies us to the present day, spanning two centuries of the history of relations between the two archipelagos and of a sport that has conquered the world. And what if some of the first foreigners to settle in the Hawaiian islands were, in fact, Azorean whalers? Pedro Arruda was born in Lisbon in 1974 and has lived in the Azores since 1998, where he works as an entrepreneur in the tourism sector. A poet, surfer and pineapple grower, he has held various positions in the public and private sectors, always linked to tourism, culture, the media and sport. A bodyboarder since 1984, the sea is his most enduring passion. Free admission. Target audience: General. Information: 214 815 417 (call to the national fixed-line network) | on weekdays from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00). Organisation: Cascais Municipal Council.
