The Museum Out of the Closet proposes a queer reading of the collections of the Museu de Lisboa - Palácio Pimenta, in a guided tour led by André Murraças that reveals another history: the queer history of Lisbon.

Brief Introduction The Museum Out of the Closet proposes a queer reading of the collections of Portuguese museums. Through guided tours of the permanent exhibition of the Museu de Lisboa - Palácio Pimenta, André Murraças offers an alternative interpretation of some artefacts, documents and works of art that may illustrate another history: the queer history of Lisbon. Synopsis The word queer (in English, strange, deviant) began as a pejorative term for "homosexual", but since the 1990s it has been chosen by non-heterosexual people to define their identity. It is also a concept embraced by academia and, in the theoretical context applied to the arts, it is a term that refers to the variety of identities, sexual and gender practices that deviate from heterosexual ideas, or that demonstrate their ambiguity. The Museum Out of the Closet thus dares to map the Lisbon of friends, sodomites, fanchonos, criminals, transvestites and queers.
