A Pencak Silat workshop, a traditional Indonesian martial art, with an introduction, demonstration and practice of basic movements guided by experienced instructors. Activities are adapted to participants, with no previous experience required.

Brief Introduction Explore Pencak Silat, a traditional Indonesian martial art that combines physical techniques, movement, discipline and cultural expression. The workshop will begin with an introduction and demonstration by practitioners of the art, followed by an interactive session in which participants will learn some basic movements and techniques under the guidance of the instructors. The activities will be adapted to participants and carried out with special attention to accessibility and safety. No previous experience in martial arts is required. Artistic Profile Asep Solihin is a senior Pencak Silat practitioner and coach with extensive experience in athlete development, competition and training at regional, national and international level in Indonesia. He is a senior figure of Satria Muda Indonesia (SMI) in Riau province and has served as head coach at the Student Education and Training Centre (PPLP) in Riau province, where he has contributed to the training and development of young Pencak Silat athletes. Throughout his coaching career, Asep Solihin has been responsible for guiding training programmes and preparing the Riau Pencak Silat team for important Indonesian sporting events, including regional championships, the Pekan Olahraga Pelajar Wilayah (POPWIL) and the 21st edition of the National Sports Games (PON XXI), held in Aceh, North Sumatra. At international level, he has also coached Indonesian athletes in competitions abroad. Among the athletes he trained is Tri Juanda, a Pencak Silat athlete from Riau who won a silver medal at the Pencak Silat World Championship in Thailand and also competed at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Vietnam. His contribution to the development of Pencak Silat also extended to national organisation, having been selected as Riau's representative to join the central structure of PB IPSI (Indonesian Pencak Silat Association). In addition to his coaching career, Asep Solihin has a distinguished career as a Pencak Silat athlete. In 2000, he won first place in the Men's Doubles category at the Pencak Silat World Championship, an experience that gave him direct contact with international competition and complements his later coaching career. The movements taught to participants will be adapted to their ability levels, the available space and safety conditions. Additional Information This workshop will be delivered in Portuguese.
