The Shorts 4 programme at Queer Lisboa 30 brings together six short films exploring queer desire, memory and resistance, with several filmmakers attending the session.

Synopsis This session features Helen Esther Aschauer, Fabio Mota and Ana Camillo ( TMWYH ), and Sam Ashby ( Sanctuary ) Cairo Streets Abdellah Taïa (France, 2025, 19’) Docufiction. Original version in Egyptian Arabic, with English subtitles. 16+ “January 2007. I’m back in Cairo. For work. You changed your phone number, Omar. I have to find you. I love you… Abdellah.” Sanctuary Sam Ashby (United Kingdom, 2026, 24’) Documentary. Original version in English, with English subtitles. 18+ Purusha Androgyne Larkin (1934, 1988) was a monk, pioneering gay filmmaker and self-proclaimed cosmic-erotic mystic. His 1981 book, “The Divine Androgyne”, challenged repression with a spiritual vision rooted in eroticism and presented a radical path to cosmic-erotic consciousness through fisting. Sanctuary explores Larkin’s attempt to form a utopian spiritual community based on pleasure and examines the complex legacy of his ideas in queer culture. My Structuralist Film Angelo Madsen (USA, 2026, 6’) Experimental documentary. Original version in English, with English subtitles. 16+ Conceived as an orgasm-guided confessional meditation, “My Structuralist Film” uses performance artist Tehching Hsieh’s piece “One Year Performance (Time Clock Piece)” as a structure to illustrate the filmmaker’s (presumed) innards. To what extent should a trans body want or need to be visible? In what terms is the filmmaker obliged to narrate, perform, or even fabricate visibility to satisfy the audience? Given the limits and restrictions of disclosure, this project positions the act of looking not as an offering or an exchange, but as an inflexible neoliberal desire to consume. Daria's Night Flowers Maryam Tafakory (Iran, United Kingdom, France, 2025, 16’) Essay film. Original version in Farsi and English, with English subtitles. 16+ Daria wrote her first manuscript about falling in love with a mysterious girl named “abi” (blue). The night flowers in her garden hide the secrets of a country that turned love stories into routine crime scenes. TMWYH Helen Esther Aschauer (Austria, 2026, 17’) Fiction. The film turns what should be an everyday moment into a tense, intimate portrait of the invisible rules, paranoia and instincts that women carry with them in public spaces. Seek No Favor Elle Clay, Leilah Weinraub (USA, 2025, 14’) Fiction. Original version in English, with English subtitles. 16+ Monroe Malone, an unassuming millennial struggling with anxiety, lives in the bustling Brooklyn neighborhood. While trying to get over the anxiety caused by losing her job last year, she unexpectedly comes across an underground beauty-products cartel led by Big Baby, whose gang has thrown the neighborhood into turmoil after a series of hair-extension thefts that left girls bald in the streets!
