Pimenta Palace hosts the exhibition 'For Love of the City', celebrating 90 years of the Grupo Amigos de Lisboa, highlighting its history and contribution to the city. Tickets cost €5 and include access to the permanent exhibition.

Brief Introduction To mark the ninety years of the Grupo Amigos de Lisboa, the Sala dos Fundos hosts an exhibition about its trajectory and its contribution to the city. Synopsis As a non-profit civic association, it was founded in 1936, received the Gold Medal of the Lisbon City Council in 1956 and was recognised with the Status of Public Utility in 1980. Created to be a forum for plural debate, GAL has contributed to forming a Lisbon public consciousness, focusing on the city's rich and diverse past, the substantial changes of the present and the often utopian perspectives of the future. GAL left its mark on episodes of heritage defence, such as the remodelling of Avenida da Liberdade (1955), the General Plan for Urbanisation and Circulation of Lisbon (1967), or the preservation of Parque Ventura Terra (1983). Furthermore, the institution built a small but relevant museological collection, as well as a specialised library with around 8000 volumes. Since its creation, GAL has brought together a remarkable set of olisipographers, such as Luís Pastor de Macedo, Gustavo de Matos Sequeira, Augusto Vieira da Silva, Norberto de Araújo, João Pinto de Carvalho, among many others. The history of the capital was the group's main constant, with 165 volumes of the magazine Olisipo published, as well as books and proceedings of themed congresses. For years, the magazine's cover was signed by Almada Negreiros, one of GAL's first members. It is this extraordinary history, dreamed 90 years ago by a group of lovers of all things about the city, that the Museu de Lisboa addresses in the exhibition Por amor a Lisboa, a partnership with the Grupo Amigos de Lisboa.
