Brief Introduction Kintsugi Workshop With Nic and Inês DATES Saturday and Tuesday | 26 and 29 September 10am to 1pm | 2:30pm to 5:30pm PARTICIPANTS Max. 15 PRICE €45 [materials included] Recommended age 16+ [indicative] Kintsugi is a Japanese restoration art over a thousand years old, in which artisans repair ceramic pieces with gold powder. The aim is not to hide imperfections but to highlight them, as they are part of the piece's life. Thus, the piece is mended, emphasizing the fracture lines with gold. The imperfections gain a new history, seen and appreciated through the delicate and embellished lines. In this workshop, participants can bring a ceramic piece they would like to see restored. The workshop begins with a theoretical approach to the technique, followed by practice. The work will not be done with real gold powder, but with alternative gilded materials, to make the process less toxic, more accessible, and faster. PROGRAM . Master new concepts and techniques Nic and Inês are Nicholas Carvalho (South Africa) and Inês Almeida (Évora). They met at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, where they became professors. They dedicate themselves to creating and exhibiting their own experimental Artist's Books, teaching workshops in this area. They regularly promote conversations, performances, and workshops with prominent artists and authors in music, literature, and illustration, at an event called Parlapiê. More recently, they have published illustrated children's books in Portugal, Brazil, and India. In 2016, they traveled the world, a journey that took them to 3 continents in search of inspiration. They gave presentations and workshops in the USA, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Australia, and Japan.
