The new solo exhibition by Vasco Araújo (Lisbon, 1975) at the Pavilhão Julião Sarmento brings together a set of works created between 2005 and the present day, most of them shown for the first time in Portugal. Spanning installation, photography, video, drawing, sculpture and performance, the existential and psychological dimension runs through the entire exhibition, as does the performative dimension. Among the works on display, E agora para onde vou? (2021) stands out, an installation composed of 16 watercolour books, inspired by a trip to the far south of the American continent and close to the artistic tradition of seascapes — dedicated to the representation of the sea and maritime life — evoking the old travel notebooks in which text and image were the resources for capturing states of mind, observations and landscapes. The word takes on a central role in several pieces, notably in Horizonte (2026), where the phrase Everything is in your mind… runs through the exhibition space and gives the show its title. The exhibition also includes the video Far de Donna (2005), belonging to the Julião Sarmento Collection, a work that highlights the artist's interest in themes related to representation and the construction of identity. In a path that combines different languages and references, the exhibition addresses forms of communication and the continuous attempt to reach the other, a reflection that extends into the public programme associated with the exhibition, with the performances Corpus Conectus, in its English and Portuguese versions (on 7 October and 11 November, respectively), and a session of Conversas na Galeria, in which the artist will speak with the public on 16 December at 6 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Technical sheet: Curated by Isabel Carlos.
