Synopsis Joana Levi CANCER IN SATURN ACCESSIBILITY 6 NOV English subtitles 7 NOV Portuguese Sign Language interpretation and Audio description CLUBE ESPECTADOR 7 NOV With moderation by José Maria Vieira Mendes and Maria Sequeira Mendes BOOK LAUNCH 4 DEC 6:30 PM Manuela Porto Room Cancer in Saturno , the new creation project by Joana Levi, concludes a trilogy of performances that questions the colonial relations of so-called Western society with the (non-human) world around it: animals, plants, the earth, microorganisms and the planets. Since 2020, Levi has developed an essayistic language that articulates, with sharp humour, philosophical meditation, fabulation, scientific theories and autobiographical elements. After Rasante (2000) and Primárias e Exóticas (2024), in Cancer in Saturno , Levi turns to the relations between the human and the micro and macroscopic worlds. The latest creation in this series draws inspiration from the theories of biologist Lynn Margulis, transposing her concept of symbiosis from biology to dramaturgical creation. It is in this sense that the research on the cellular universe and the observation of her own body - subject to hormone therapy to combat a breast tumour - will be in symbiotic conversation with astrological and astronomical readings. Joana Levi is a creator, performer and dramaturg, based in Lisbon since 2017. She dedicates herself to experimental and collaborative projects that forge a scene traversed by different languages (from performance to theatre, from dance to philosophical thought) and that evoke relations of tension expressed in urban, (post)colonial and gender contexts and conflicts. Recently, she created the solo performance Primárias e Exóticas at the Temps d'Images Festival. She is an artist member of PENHASCO Arte Cooperativa and APNEIA COLECTIVA.
