Azymuth, pioneers of “samba doido”, play Casa Capitão in Lisbon, celebrating more than fifty years of career and the album “Marca Passo”.

Responsible for forging a completely new sound by fusing jazz-funk with samba, creating their unique genre “samba doido”, Azymuth are one of Brazil’s most influential bands and, undoubtedly, one of the most enduring in the world. Fifty years after their formation, the trio have released more than thirty albums and continue to perform with the same energy and enthusiasm as in their early years. Their most recent album, Marca Passo, represents a profound milestone, being the first full-length since the passing of founding drummer Ivan “Mamão” Conti in 2023, following the earlier loss of keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami in 2012. Alex Malheiros, the only original member still present, faces the responsibility of preserving the band’s musical legacy as a spiritual duty. He is joined by the equally dedicated Dudu Viana on keyboards, known for his work with Roberto Menescal, Marcos Valle and João Bosco. On drums is Renato Massa, who has collaborated with names such as Ed Motta and, again, Marcos Valle. Beyond their influence on jazz and funk, Azymuth’s contribution to electronic music on a global level is undeniable. They have collaborated with artists such as 4hero, Madlib and Jazzanova, and have been remixed by figures such as Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Global Communication and Daniel Maunick. There are no seated or reserved places at Casa Capitão concerts. To guarantee a good position in front of the stage, it is best to arrive early. And be ready to spend an hour or two standing.
