Teatro Nacional D. Maria II presents 'The Bald Soprano', a founding work of the Theatre of the Absurd, directed by Beatriz Batarda. The play dismantles the logic of communication through circular dialogues and banal situations.

Synopsis Teatro Nacional D. Maria II resumes its internship programme for recently graduated performers. Each year, four young people will join the theatre's cast, taking their first steps in the profession in a real territory of artistic experimentation. This initiative is linked to a programme of workshops and masterclasses taught by renowned creators. In 2026, the pedagogical journey will culminate in a special show: The Bald Soprano, one of the founding texts of the Theatre of the Absurd. Written in 1950, the play dismantles the logic of communication and social interaction through circular dialogues, banal situations that derail, and characters trapped in a daily life where language no longer seems to mean anything. The staging will be by Beatriz Batarda, an actress, director and teacher recognised in theatre and cinema, with vast experience in teaching acting techniques. With this production, D. Maria II reinforces its role as a space for transition between training and professional practice, contributing to the renewal of the Portuguese theatrical fabric.
