Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement, also known as the “way of flowers”. Originally, ikebana was a kind of offering ritual performed in Buddhist temples in Japan during the 6th century. Evolving over time, it underwent significant development during the Muromachi period (15th century). It sought the same degree of refinement and elevated aesthetic sense as another art that emerged at the same time, Cha no yu, the tea ceremony. In contrast to flower arrangements in Western countries, the Japanese floral arrangement creates a harmony of construction between lines, rhythm and colour. Simplicity is highly valued, as is the existence of emptiness (unfilled space). Alongside its enormous popularity in Japan, the art of ikebana has been gaining followers all over the world. Accessible to practitioners of all ages, it already counts several schools corresponding to different styles. In this workshop you will discover the secrets of this floral art that, from natural elements such as flowers, branches and plants, creates a harmony of forms and lines in space. Ikebana é a arte japonesa de arranjo floral, também conhecida como o “caminho das flores”. Na sua origem, ikebana era uma espécie de ritual de oferenda feito nos templos budistas do Japão durante o século VI. Evoluindo ao longo do tempo, conheceu um desenvolvimento significativo na época de Muromachi (século XV). Procurou-se nela o mesmo grau de requinte e elevado sentido estético de uma outra arte que surgiu na mesma altura, Cha no yu, a cerimónia do chá.
