The Cinema Fernando Lopes is showing a final screening of the film Yellow Letters, by Ilker Çatak, in collaboration with Amnesty International, Portugal. The screening is presented by Ana Teresa Santos, Mobilisation and Campaigns Coordinator of the organisation. Starring Özgü Namal and Tansu Biçer, Yellow Letters is a political thriller of great urgency that questions the limits of freedom of expression and the persecution of academics and artists under an increasingly repressive regime, themes that echo far beyond Turkey's borders. Aziz, a professor at the University of Ankara, receives a “yellow letter” announcing, without any explanation, the revocation of his contract. When his wife, Derya, a renowned actress at the national theatre, also receives hers, the couple find themselves in a distressing situation. Suddenly persecuted by the State and torn between their ideals and the demands of everyday life, the two see their marriage pushed to the limit. Yellow Letters was awarded the Golden Bear at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. Technical details: By Ilker Çatak, with Özgü Namal, Tansu Biçer, Leyla Cabas. TUR/FRA/GER, 2026, 127 min., M/16.
