Tribute Concert to Prof. José António Piñeiro Nagy

Sunday 25 October · 17:00

Auditório Senhora da Boa Nova, Cascais

A OCCO, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras pays tribute to Prof. José António Piñeiro Nagy, an unavoidable figure of the classical music scene in Portugal, in a concert at the Senhora da Boa Nova Auditorium, in Estoril. Prof. Piñeiro Nagy founded the Estoril Festival (later the Estoril Lisboa Festival), the Estoril International Summer Courses and the Estoril Interpretation Competition. These initiatives deeply marked Portuguese musical life and contributed to the training of several generations of musicians. He was also one of the founders of the Lisbon Higher School of Music and played a decisive role in the years preceding the creation of the OCCO. By accepting the proposal of Maestro Nikolay Lalov, he opened the doors to the first concerts of the then Estoril Ensemble, which would give rise to the current Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras. The programme combines works by Joly Braga Santos, Armando Mota, Artur Caldeira and Luís de Freitas Branco with pieces by Astor Piazzolla and Tchaikovsky. Conducted by maestros Nikolay Lalov and António Saiote, who is also the clarinet soloist. Free admission, subject to seat reservation. Information: [email protected].
