The solo exhibition of Yuli Yamagata (São Paulo, 1989) continues the project started at the Católica Art Center and results from a collaboration with the Escola das Artes of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto. Known for her sculptures of hybrid character, Yamagata develops a practice that combines materials and textile techniques to create exuberant forms that oscillate between the organic and the artificial, the recognizable and the fantastic. Her work uses references from pop culture, design and the everyday to build a visual glossary, simultaneously playful and unsettling, in which humor and the unusual coexist. In Para onde os Sonâmbulos vão?, the artist transforms the Kunsthalle Lissabon into a dreamlike and immersive environment, proposing an alternative reading of the space. The exhibition unfolds according to a logic close to that of dreams, like a sequence of images in permanent metamorphosis, in which forms, scales and materials challenge perception. Inhabited by hybrid figures and improbable associations, the route momentarily suspends the rules of the everyday: objects seem to take on a life of their own, familiar elements appear displaced, and the public is invited to surrender to an experience that is simultaneously engaging and unexpected. Without offering linear narratives or closed interpretations, the exhibition proposes a route guided by free association, curiosity and sensory experience. As scales, materials and references shift and transform, the exhibition space becomes a place where dreams escape the limits of sleep. Between the conscious and the unconscious, strangeness, humor and fantasy coexist, inviting the public to explore other ways of relating to space, matter and imagination. Thursday to Saturday, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. sculpture.
