A Magic Flute

Saturday 31 October – Sunday 1 November

Escola Secundária António Damásio, Lisbon

The starting point of A Magic Flute is a question: what do children do when they go to the opera for the first time? What story do they tell? This production does not present Mozart's The Magic Flute, but a new magic flute, one that plays with the audience's expectations about the story, the characters, the surtitles and opera itself. Mozart's score is sung in German, by a young cast and a live chamber orchestra. The surtitles, in Portuguese, are a character in themselves, and tell a new story in their own way. That of another magic flute that sounds like Mozart, but tells us something different. Ages 6 and up. Technical sheet: Coletivo de Fantochada.
