Schubert's Fifth

Monday 9 November

Teatro Tivoli BBVA, Lisbon

The Fifth Symphony is the most 'delicate' of all Schubert's symphonies. Dated 1816, it combines the joviality of a 19-year-old musician with the precocious maturity of one of the greatest composers of all time. It is serene music, which does not rush into showy effects and relies on a register shaped by the heritage of the classics. This concern is particularly noticeable in the third movement, so great are the affinities with the Minuet of Mozart's Symphony No. 40. It is precisely with Mozart's music that this concert begins. The motet Exsultate, jubilate was composed in 1773, in Milan, for one of the most virtuosic castrati of the time, Venanzio Rauzzini. We now hear the young soprano Ana Rosa, winner of the 13th Lyrical Singing Competition of the Portuguese Rotary Foundation. In between, Krišs Russman debuts at the helm of the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon with his most recent creation. Program. W. A. Mozart Exsultate, jubilate. Krišs Russman Work in premiere. F. Schubert Symphony No. 5. Technical sheet: Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon. Ana Rosa, soprano. Krišs Russman, conductor.
