Maria Lassnig (1919-2014) is a central artist who posed fundamental questions to contemporary art in the face of the crisis of theme, object and subject. Over seven decades, this body of work rescued, through the practice of drawing and painting, the perceptions of the body, investigating the possibilities of tracing and expressing the sensations that, by themselves, signal mental and emotional states, the tension in interpersonal relationships (particularly in gender relations) and the imperceptible conflicts of psychophysiology. The almost thirty drawings in the current exhibition , with Maria Lassnig concentrating precisely on the practice of drawing in the 1990s , start from physiognomy studies based on self-observation and the observation of others (the portrait was a constant practice in Lassnig), in a stratigraphy of contour lines, with their ruptures, translations, blurrings and erasures, describing the pregnant elements of memory, now isolated, resized, distorted and imbricated in the nerve impulse guided by the urgency of the instant (but not photographic) and in the welcoming of all manifestations of strangeness, sometimes close to abjection and monstrosity. Wednesday to Saturday,, from 12pm to 7pm. drawing.
