Party Life By Cabrita

Tuesday 3 November · 21:30

Coliseu dos Recreios, Lisbon

Synopsis #partytime is João Cabrita's third solo full-length album, and it completes a trilogy that reflects on the importance of shared experience in the creation of music. “Cabrita” (2020) dealt with the past and 30 years of a career full of collaborations, “Umbra” with the present and the successive losses of those close to us in middle age, and now, with eyes on the future, life is celebrated, and its most festive aspect, where affections and friendships play a very important role, both in creation and in enjoyment. Aesthetically closer to 70s funk, soul and disco, the aim is, through dance, to exorcise negativity and find a communal spirit very present on the “stage” and on the dance floor, countering the individualism currently prevailing. The inspiration arose, in the author's words, in 2024, when “I had the enormous pleasure and honour of being invited to assemble a national brass section for the mythical band The Temptations, during their passage through Portugal, at an event at Casino Estoril.” For the project it made no sense to invite anyone other than Ivo Costa and Rui Alves (drums), Iuri Oliveira (percussion), Francisco Rebelo and Renato Chantre de Almeida (bass), João Gomes (keyboards) and David Pessoa and Milton Gulli (vocals and guitars), all masters with proven track records in Portuguese music and long-time collaborators and road companions, to bring all the groove needed to make even the most hardened spectator dance. Production will be shared between João Cabrita on Musical Direction and Guilherme Gonçalves on the sonic side and mixing. Pre-production will be directed by João Cabrita, who will take charge of performing and recording almost all of the 18 songs in order to select 10 to 12 from this batch for the final record. The latter will feature the participation of the guests. Videos and press relations will be negotiated after approval of the cultural fund, depending on the amount made available. The Master will be licensed to Omnichord Records, as with previous records, and booking will be handled by Produtores Associados, which will arrange a promotional tour. Prices Standing Audience - €15
