Brief Introduction Workshop, Ruler of Scales: from the banal to the monumental Part of the MAAT Youth Collective 2026, 27 programme With Os Espacialistas Visual Arts Workshop How long is the artist's word? What is the geography of their discourse? What lines do they create between reality and the constructed narrative? What spaces do we occupy in their works? The ruler is a measuring and mediating object of scales, in relation to the body and the place. In these two workshops, Portuguese artists of international scale play games of resizing and displacement, which can be built as organic paths or grids of meticulous appropriations. These will be moments created for challenges of awareness of the world, starting from the rulers and tools of each author. Between the artists' studios and the exhibition space in the museum, participants will be challenged to create rulers with chromatic, sensory, spatial and cultural scales, among many others. About the Youth Collective The MAAT Youth Collective is an active participation programme created in 2021/22, in partnership with the ICS, University of Lisbon, within the scope of the research “Youth in Museums / Educational provision and professional training for youth in contemporary art museums”, by Carolina Silva. From science to sport, from architecture to history and from culture to politics, the aim is to think and be together, expanding social, academic and professional contact networks. Each young person can design their own educational and creative path, through continued participation as a member of the Collective or by attending specific workshops.
Each meeting is an opportunity to open new connections, test ideas, collaborate with professionals from different fields and build, together, a path that reflects the voices and interests of the group. The sessions, selected by each young person, may give rise to research work, publications or other formats, based on the challenges developed throughout the year.
