World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

Friday 30 October

Cinemateca Portuguesa, Lisbon

The Cinemateca once again celebrates World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, always marked by members of FIAF, the International Federation of Film Archives, on 27 October. This evokes the date on which, at the Belgrade General Assembly in 1980, UNESCO adopted the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Conservation of Moving Images. In 2026, we mark the rediscovery of A LENDA DE MIRAGAIA, a film whose whereabouts were unknown until mid-May of this year, and LETTY LYNTON, a film withdrawn from circulation in 1936 (not without having premiered even in Portugal) due to rights issues and which only now can be seen again.
