Divino Sospiro and mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg perform cantatas by Bach, Scarlatti and Stradella, in a concert that crosses Lutheran piety with Mediterranean emotionalism.

Synopsis Pre-concert talk by Massimo Mazzeo at 7:30 pm. Ad Gloriam Dei: Cantatas by Bach, Scarlatti and Stradella Divino Sospiro and Ann Hallenberg Two of Bach's finest cantatas, composed in Weimar (1714) and Leipzig (1726), respectively, are here combined with impressive works by Scarlatti and Stradella. The distance between the austerity of Lutheran piety and the burning 'emotionalism' of the Mediterranean may seem insurmountable, yet Bach so admired the compositions of his Neapolitan colleagues that he made his own 'parody' of them in his output. In this concert, Divino Sospiro and Ann Hallenberg demonstrate equal mastery in both idioms.
