Visit to the Cascais Tide Gauge

Sunday 1 March – Thursday 31 December

Marégrafo de Cascais, Cascais

Did you know that Cascais houses one of the oldest tide gauges in the world? In continuous operation since 1882, the Cascais Tide Gauge was a pioneer in tide observation and is still the only one of its kind in operation. But this small seaside building holds another secret: it is from here that the altitude of all mainland Portuguese territory is measured. In this visit, we will discover how science and history meet at this national reference point, where time, sea and land intersect.
