A haiku writing workshop led by Leonilda Alfarrobinha, in two Saturday sessions. Participants will explore the origins and features of this Japanese poetic form and write their own poems.

Linked to Nature and daily life, anyone can find sources of inspiration to produce a haiku. Writing haiku is an exemplary practice of refinement, because in these poems each word must be placed in the right place. But... what is haiku? What is evidence and what is mystery in this poetic form of Japanese origin? Haiku goes beyond literature: it can be a lifestyle, a means of self-knowledge, a possibility of introspection and inner re-balancing, a path to Nature. Alongside its enormous popularity in Japan, haiku has been gaining followers all over the world. In this two-session workshop, we challenge you to write a haiku. We will start by getting to know this poetic form better - origin, characteristics, influences in the West, authors and works - through the analysis of Japanese and Portuguese poems. Then, participants will explore the expressive resources of haiku to create their own poem. Leonilda Alfarrobinha has a degree in Romance Philology and began studying Japanese language and culture in 1990. The haiku poetic form immediately attracted her attention. In 2003, she completed a postgraduate degree in General Oriental Studies and in 2007 published a book of haikus in Portuguese, O Respirar das Flores. She visited Japan several times and in 2015 presented a Master's thesis at the Catholic University entitled 'Ao Encontro da Natureza através da Poesia Haiku de Matsuo Bashô'. Prices Entry - 30€
