I Feel More Human Under Water

Saturday 21 November – Thursday 31 December

Museu do Mar - Rei D. Carlos, Cascais

The Museu do Mar Rei D. Carlos invites the public to dive into a new exhibition that challenges us to slow down and reflect on our connection with nature. Through a delicate selection of ceramic and jewellery pieces inspired by the sea, the artist Sara Matos Ferreira transports the visitor to the serene environment of the ocean depths, where silence prevails and the body floats without limitations. “The clay follows the pulse of the body; and the body, when it dives, follows the pulse of the water”, says the artist. It is with this premise that the museum invites you to discover the true essence of this work, marked by the meticulous work of textures and by a full dedication to the preservation and defence of the oceans. An exhibition designed to be felt and reflected upon, with a social dimension: 20% of the value of the sales of the works goes to the ocean protection association Movimento Claro, from Cascais. “My body of work focuses on the juxtaposition of mixed techniques, ceramics and jewellery, where I reconcile the deconstruction of art with the rigour of formation engineering. I seek inspiration in nature, in my passion for diving, in the seabed, in its textures. Where there is no noise or chaos. I seek to express, through my pieces, my stance of defence and deep respect for the oceans.” Sara Matos Ferreira. Opening: Saturday, 21 November, at 4:30 pm.
