Keisha Scarville

Friday 9 October – Saturday 7 November

Narrativa, Lisbon

A NARRATIVA presents Passports, by Keisha Scarville, an exhibition that starts from an apparently simple image — the artist's father's first passport photograph — to question the complex relationships between identity, memory and representation. Awarded the Book of the Year Prize at the 2026 Rencontres d'Arles, the project is the result of research developed over more than a decade. Between 2012 and 2026, Scarville reinterpreted the same photograph more than 300 times, using collage, superimposition and combination with documents, found images and different materials. Originally conceived as a bureaucratic instrument of identification before the State, the photograph is here removed from its context and transformed into a visual archive in permanent construction. Repetition gives way to multiplicity, and a single image becomes the starting point for countless possibilities of memory and representation. Presented in small dimensions, the works demand an attentive approach, revealing successive layers and details that invite prolonged observation. ARV. Wednesday to Friday, from 2 pm to 7 pm, Saturday, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Free.
