Ways of Growing

Thursday 29 October – Saturday 28 November

Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon

The exhibition Ways of Growing constitutes the culmination of Free Radicals, a two-year research project exploring the intersections between plant biodiversity and artistic practice. The show brings together works by twenty artists, designers, creative professionals and interdisciplinary researchers, who present their responses to the specific ecological realities of the current European climate context: from the expansion of eucalyptus monocultures in Portugal to the loss of forest in Armenia, including the transformation of traditional plant knowledge in the mountain communities of Galicia. Throughout the project, the participants question how we can integrate plants into artistic research as co-creators of a collective imaginary, rather than treating them as mere subject matter or object, while simultaneously contributing to a broader reflection on the intersections between plant biodiversity and creative practice. Monday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Technical sheet: Artists: Blanca Allegue, Kač Bártková, Aly Beveridge, Morgane Billuart, CARUMA, Gabriela Carvalho, Alejandra Díaz-Guerra Acedo, Eleonora Edreva, Elena Falomo, Maria Ilieva, Adam Kvaček, Jamie McGhee, Ricardo Nugra Madero, Ivana Papić, Béatrice Pépin, Inês Quente, Emilie Rážová, Miguel Tavares, Daria Titova and Yanna Varbanova.
