Weight-Counterweight

Sunday 25 October – Monday 29 March

MACAM, Lisbon

Counterweight brings together a set of three-dimensional works from the MACAM collection that explore different forms of balance, tension and transformation in space. Organized around thematic cores, nature and abstraction, scale and resistance, cities and urbanism, the exhibition proposes a reflection on the forces that structure both the built and the natural world. Among references to architecture, urban expansion and the dynamics of collective life, the works reveal relations of conflict, adaptation and permanence. The tension between materials, forms and scales evidences not only processes of physical, social and symbolic resistance, as the observation of nature inspires exercises in synthesis, abstraction and formal reinvention. Through sculptures, installations and other three-dimensional proposals, Portuguese and international artists investigate concepts of weight and counterweight that far exceed the material dimension of the works. Wednesday to Monday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Guided visit with the director and curator, October 24, at 11 a.m. Technical sheet: Curated by Adelaide Ginga and Carolina Quintela.
