The Suppliants

Friday 11 December – Sunday 13 December

Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Lisbon

In the Greek tragedy The Suppliants, Aeschylus tells the story of fifty sisters who, when forced to marry fifty cousins against their will, set off by boat, fleeing Egypt, crossing the Mediterranean Sea, landing on the sands of Greece, where they ask for asylum. One does not need to look far to find the present day in certain myths, or certain plays. In this case, a crossing on a boat full of people fleeing a fateful fate imposed on them by a certain country, their journey across that same Mediterranean Sea, and the request for asylum in a southern European country could be in the news of any newscast of our days. Session with audio description and LGP (Portuguese Sign Language) on December 12. Technical sheet: Cassandra. Based on Aeschylus; creation by Sara Barros Leitão; with Lígia Roque, Ricardo Vaz Trindade and Sandro Feliciano.
