If the books about optical illusions, which became so popular in the 90s, made us believe we had a 'magic eye', Ubaldo's music manages to convince us that we have a magic ear. If, when looking patiently and with concentration at an abstract pattern, shapes suddenly emerged, then listening to the experimental sounds of Andreu G. Serra (which he calls 'napcore') with attention and the willingness to let ourselves be surprised produces unprecedented revelations. He pursues very lofty goals: capturing moments, catching fragments of life, both exterior and interior, and linking the mundane to transcendence. Over more than a decade of intense activity, he plays or has played with bands such as Or Sobre Blau (with Kiran Leonard), The Clothes (with Kool Music), Cunningham/Volt/Serra and Ensemble Topogràfic. He has worked with artists from a wide range of disciplines, including El Conde de Torrefiel, Andrea Bel, Mark Cunningham of MARS, Darius Bogdanowicz, Mar Clapés, Bimbo Picasso Corporation, Za! and Tarta Relena. His imaginary universe began to take concrete shape with his second album, la pèrdua de l'estat [Boira Discos, 2017], in which he explores the resonance capabilities of instruments such as the Cristall Baschet, as well as infinite layers of guitars disintegrating around fluid whispers. It is followed by CASA [Urpa i Musell, 2020], with a serene atmosphere shaped by buzzing winds, deep laments and meditative melodies, in contrast with moment temporalment heretat [Gandula, 2021], a diary on raw tape telling specific stories of each place. Currently, he combines recordings for his solo project with commissioned works, such as film soundtracks, including BINU: Història de dues estrelles [2023], and sound design pieces for exhibitions such as IMPERIVM [2024]. In recent months, he released The Clothes' debut album, la fabula del martell i les tres flors [no soap, 2025], a new collaborative duo with Jasper Baydala, as well as the second albums of Cunningham/Volt/Serra, introspective movement, nonchalant steps [Feeding Tube Records, 2026], and Or Sobre Blau, Making Friends [Stroom, 2026]. Meanwhile, he has been gradually working on new mutations of Ubaldo, solo and with a band, from his new base in London.
