A conference aiming to bring together researchers who have dedicated themselves to the study of poetry translation in Portugal, seeking to reflect on the central role that translation practice assumed in the renewal of Portuguese poetry in the second half of the 20th century. Despite its importance for the configuration of the modern and contemporary poetic landscape, it remains a relatively understudied field in a systematic way, especially with regard to the relationships between translation, poetic creation and the circulation of literary models. More than a parallel activity, translation constituted, for many authors, a true space of poetic experimentation, critical dialogue and transnational openness. Starting from a verse by Jorge de Sena, 'se vos traduzo para vós em mim' ('if I translate you into you in me') -, this meeting will seek to discuss how different poet-translators, such as Sena himself, David Mourão-Ferreira, Eugénio de Andrade, Ana Hatherly, Alexandre O'Neill, Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão, among others, reinvented the relationship between writing, reading and literary circulation, contributing to the transformation of the Portuguese poetic field between the 1940s and 1980s.
