Brief Introduction THE ART OF STORYTELLING: IN INDIA With João Pedro Oliveira DATE | Saturday | 28 November TIME | 14.30 to 17.30 PARTICIPANTS | Min. 8 PRICE | €30 It is commonly said that, if in the Abrahamic religions teachings are transmitted through ideas and precepts, in the Indian religions, which include Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, as well as the Abrahamic religions themselves, they are usually transmitted mainly through stories. The religions of India contain a great wealth of characters and actions that, while appearing in different narrative traditions, from literary works, through oral ones and even to performing and audiovisual arts, and being created by groups ranging from the most powerful in society to the most invisible, tend to be related, fitting into the same narrative universe. In this session, we will introduce some of the main narratives of India and the traditions of telling them in different Indian sociocultural contexts through words, movement, music and image. João Pedro Oliveira holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Catholic University of Portugal, founding member of the Asian Hub and fellow of the Oriente Foundation. He regularly teaches about cultural and religious traditions of Asia, in addition to dedicating himself to the practice, performance and dissemination of world music. Prices Entry - €30
