The Nature of Things

Tuesday 27 October – Wednesday 23 December

Rui Freire-Fine Art, Lisbon

The Nature of Things proposes a reflection on the relations between matter, form and perception, bringing together artistic practices that explore different ways of constructing and interpreting the visible. The exhibition starts from the idea that the nature of a work is not exhausted in the materials that constitute it or in the image it presents, revealing itself also in the relation between artistic intention, gesture and the experience of looking. Between precision and spontaneity, construction and intuition, figuration and abstraction, the works affirm different possibilities of expression. Painting, drawing, photography and glass establish relations in which matter manifests itself both in its physical presence and transforms into image, reflection or suggestion. More than seeking an aesthetic unity, The Nature of Things values the singularity of each language and the tensions that emerge from their encounter. Between what matter reveals and what the image suggests, the exhibition opens a space for reflection on the nature of the works and our relation with them, inviting us to look beyond what is immediately visible. Tuesday to Saturday, from 2 pm to 7 pm. Technical sheet: Artists: Alteronce Gumby, Bela Silva, Bruno Castro Santos, Manuela Marques, Melike Kara, Paul de Flers, Pedro Quintas, Rob Wynne, Roberto Ruspoli and Vieira da Silva.
