Pantónio

Friday 6 November – Thursday 31 December

Galeria Underdogs, Lisbon

Underdogs Gallery presents Ser Vivo (Living Being), the new exhibition by Pantónio, a Portuguese contemporary artist recognised for his singular visual language, marked by fluid lines, organic forms and animal figures. The exhibition proposes a journey through an apparently harmonious universe, where the interactions between animals progressively reveal tensions and imbalances that point to the human condition itself. Known for his large-scale murals found all over the world, including the creation of the tallest mural in Europe, at 66 metres, in Paris, Pantónio (pseudonym of António Correia, born on Terceira Island, Azores) builds his compositions on canvas and paper. Throughout the exhibition, nature emerges as a territory of complex relationships. The animals share a world that, at first sight, seems idyllic, but where mechanisms of exclusion, indifference and power struggles insinuate themselves. Far from being mere representations of the natural world, these figures function as allegories of behaviours and social structures, mirrors of human behaviour. In this way, the artist opens up space for reflection on how individuals and groups coexist, on who is included or excluded, and on the often subtle mechanisms through which hierarchies and power relations are established. Tuesday to Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
