Cemitério dos Prazeres, Lisbon

Cemeteries are spaces rich in memory, history and art, where cultural heritage is revealed in every tomb, sculpture and architectural element. The scheduled visits invite you to explore these places of worship from different perspectives, valuing their historical, social and artistic importance. Programme: 14 Nov: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Voltas e Notas, Musicians at the Cemitério dos Prazeres. Music. Between strolls and turns, musical scores and notes are discovered. A visit dedicated to the musicians who rest here. They cover areas from fado to classical music, from jazz to light music, and all of them are part of our experience, one way or another, through the memories of our parents or grandparents, through TV, the emblematic RTP Festivals, vinyl, theatres and operas, taverns and fado houses. 28 Nov: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Sunny Side of the Cemitério dos Prazeres. The aim is to reveal a less explored side of the Cemitério dos Prazeres, passing by outstanding works and personalities known to the general public. In addition to the history of the extensions and the last plots of temporary graves in this cemetery, we will visit tombs where personalities such as the painter Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro or the sculptor Costa Motta (nephew) rest, with emphasis on symbolism, a tomb whose epitaph is enciphered, and the last resting place of Salgado d'Araújo, the patron of the Hospital Júlio de Matos.
